Ana is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Pima East.

In 2011, she received her GED and continued her education goals by receiving her Liberal Arts degree at Pima Community College in 2014. Ana was honored as an Outstanding Adult Learner of the Year by the Coalition on Adult Basic Education. She was also recognized for her efforts in promoting adult education by the Arizona Association for Life Long Learning’s Ambassador Program. Ana chose this location because of the flexibility to allow her to work full time and go to school. One of the many things that attracted her to Pima East is the tuition cost. As a single mother, one of the many things that have helped her be able to attend school is the ability to attend classes both online and in the evening. She also feels that the smaller classroom structure allows for greater contact with professors.

An immigrant from Mexico who moved to the United States 16 years ago, Ana has a desire to help others in need. As a survivor of violent crime, she chose a degree in psychology because she wants to help those who have been in similar situations. She wants to help those who don’t have the access to the help they need. “Money should not be a reason why people don’t seek help,” says Ana. Her goal is to get her doctorate in clinical psychology by working to make an impact on those who suffer from mental health and trauma.
